Hyderabad, 3rd September 2024 – Samunnati, India’s biggest Agri-chain enabler with a combined effort of National Association for Farmer Producer Organizations (NAFPO) announced the launch of “Bharat FPO Finder,” the country’s first-ever digital public Infrastructure designed to serve as a comprehensive encyclopedia for Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). With over 42,000 FPOs listed from across the nation, the platform aims to empower farmers, researchers, NGOs, and stakeholders with critical data, enhancing the visibility of FPOs and supporting India's agricultural ecosystem. The FPO finder was launched during the 1st day of Samunnati’s 4th national conclave at HICC Novotel.
Speaking at the launch in FPO conclave , Pravesh Sharma, Director of Samunnati, referred to Bharat FPO Finder as “India’s Google for FPOs.” He added, “This platform is India's first ever digital public infrastructure initiative that brings India’s FPOs under one digital roof.”
The Bharat FPO Finder platform is designed with an intuitive user interface and allows users to search for FPOs based on various criteria, such as location, crops grown, services offered, and market links.
Mr. Anil Kumar SG, CEO & Founder of Saunnati added that “The digital transformation in agriculture is underway, and the Bharat FPO Finder is set to be at the heart of it. With FPOs playing a pivotal role in aggregating small and marginal farmers to achieve scale in agricultural production, market access, and finance, this platform will strengthen their ability to connect with stakeholders who can support their growth”.
During the event, Anil Kumar SG, Founder & CEO of Samunnati, launched a groundbreaking White Paper on Financing Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA). The paper outlines strategies to accelerate financing for climate-resilient agricultural practices, a crucial step in enabling India’s agricultural sector to meet its sustainability goals. It includes recommendations for fostering private investment in CSA and addressing the financing gaps in climate mitigation and adaptation technologies. NABARD has played an important role in shaping the Samunnati’s vision and inspired the Anil kumar SG to form world class FPO around the country.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Additional Secretary of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India said, “The future of Indian agriculture lies in its ability to adapt to changing climates while ensuring food security for its growing population. FPOs are pivotal in making this shift, as they have the power to implement sustainable practices at scale, ensuring the economic and environmental well-being of our farmers. We must accelerate financing for climate-smart agriculture and work towards an inclusive, resilient agricultural sector.”
Dr. A.V Bhawani Shankar, CGM, NABARD appreciated Samunnati for the sustainable agri-practices enabling and empowering the FPOs in India by connecting them to the market. He also announced that the NABARD is working on sustainability and climate friendly FPOs regulations to help India achieve sustainable Agriculture practices and world class products from Indian farms to the market.
