Hyderabad, 22nd January 2025: Medicover Hospitals has successfully treated a rare and critical case of midgut volvulus with intestinal malrotation in a newborn, demonstrating the hospital's advanced pediatric surgical expertise and neonatal care capabilities.
A baby girl born on 11th November 2024 at 36 weeks of gestation, weighing 1.79 kgs, was admitted to the NICU on 17th November 2024 with symptoms of bilious vomiting and decreased urine output. Diagnosed with midgut volvulus and malrotation through advanced diagnostic imaging, the baby underwent Ladd’s procedure on 20th November 2024 under the care of an expert multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Madhu Mohan Reddy, Dr. Ravinder Reddy Parige, Dr. Navitha M, and Dr. Vamshee Reddy & Dr Shilpa Adupudi Anaesthesia and Dr Nirmal Reddy Anaesthesia.
The surgery involved straightening the duodenum, widening the mesentery, releasing adhesions, appendectomy, and repositioning the intestines. Post-surgery, the baby received intensive NICU care, including IV antibiotics and nutritional support, and progressed to full oral feeds within a week.
